There is a Stigma attached for those with chronic pain. i have chronic pain. And that is ok. Lower back pain and hip pain, knee pain, foot pain wrist pain shoulder pain and headaches. Angilosing Spinalitis, disc compression, arthritis tendonitus, carpl tunnel, cartledge removed, staff infection, concisions from sports, I have learned in this lifetime you will have pain. it is beyond your control these injuries and illnesses that have me in pain for the rest of my life. i get naked with my vulnerabilities and me having to live with pain is a challage. I believe while you are deep in pain level 10 the challage is focus on treatment and acceptance of the new reality, The thing with pain is that it hurts. Once we accept the pain for what it is we allow ourseleves the freedom to choose our response. How we respond is the blessing in the challenge. i believe challenges are indeed the blessing itself. Straight up. I want to explain the Rehab Stigma. What thoughts come to mind when I say the word Rehabilitation or Physical Therapy a staple in my well being philosophy. The Rehab Stigma is similar to and associated the Stigma of death. Rehab hurts. Physical Therapy is at times counter intuitive similar to the exercise energy paradox. Just as you must achieve Maximum Fatigue to grow strength, endurance and energy you must endure pain to improve functionality and increase tolerance. Let me step back and explain how I break down exercise in four ways: endurance , strength, balance and flexibility.
If you are to grow and live and thrive in spite of your chronic health conditions you must get naked with your vulnerabilities. If you wish to move forward you must humble yourself and acknowledge the fact that you are not in control. And that’s OK. So much of life is beyond our control. Knowing this is the first step in a long walk to authentic freedom. Recognizing what I like to call God’s Will is a way to center yourself in the present moment, free yourself from the anxiety and worry for tomorrow and suffering the guilt and shame of the past. God’s Will. I once heard that to find happiness you must abide by God’s Will. It wasn’t until I started praying for the strength and wisdom to know and abide by God’s Will that truth actually started to set me free. What is God’s Will?
